Dr. Ezra B. Riber is the founder and Medical Director of Palmetto Pain Management, LLC, a comprehensive interventional Pain Management program located in Columbia, South Carolina. He has been evaluating and treating patients with pain in South Carolina for almost 35 years. Previously, Dr. Riber was the founder and Director of the Pain Management Center at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, where he was also the director of the post-operative pain service. He was the first anesthesiologist to serve as Chair of the Department of Surgery at McLeod before relocating his family to Columbia in 1999.
Dr. Riber completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Marshall University Affiliated Hospitals, and both his residency and fellowship in Anesthesiology and Pain at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is Board Certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine with the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is currently president of the SC state society for ASIPP (American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians).
A founding member and former President of the Pain Society of the Carolinas, Dr. Riber has represented South Carolina as one of two board members representing and served as chair of the Advocacy Committee. He is a long-time member of the Spine Intervention Society and has developed a widely used technique to improve trials with spinal cord stimulation (Lilly's Loop). Dr. Riber is an assistant clinical professor in the department of medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Riber's family has a strong military background. His father was a World War II veteran stationed in the Pacific, and his older brother, also an MD, was a full colonel in the Army reserve. Dr. Riber is honored to have many patients who have served in the military, many of whom are stationed locally at Fort Jackson, Shaw and McIntire.
